This scent represents "Sonder", a woody fragrance that lingers like memory — grounding, reflective, and quietly powerful. It captures the enduring essence of what once was: the homes, the voices, the rhythms of everyday life in Seneca Village, now lost to history.

By the 1850s, New York City officials had set their sights on the creation of Central Park — a project that would require clearing vast portions of land, including Seneca Village. In 1855, the city used eminent domain to claim the land, arguing it was needed for “public use.” Despite resistance, residents were forced out. By 1857, homes were demolished, churches torn down, and a thriving community — built by African Americans, Irish immigrants, and other working-class New Yorkers — was erased.

More than 200 people were displaced. Their stories, dreams, and daily lives were buried beneath what would become the Great Lawn and the western edge of Central Park. For decades, Seneca Village was nearly forgotten, left out of history books and public memory. (historians knew about Seneca Village earlier, it wasn’t publicly and physically acknowledged in Central Park until 2019)

The name Sonder evokes the quiet realization that every life — even those forgotten by history — is rich with meaning. This scent invites you to reflect and wonder: Where are the descendants of Seneca now? What stories did they carry forward? What other echoes remain beneath the surface of Central Park today?

Rooted in warm woods and subtle depth, Sonder is a tribute to the unseen — to the legacies whispered through generations and the spirits that still resonate, even when no structures remain.
